1).
What is a .EU domain?
.EU is the abbreviation for the European Union and is only available to those businesses and individuals located in the EU.

Who can register .EU domain?
In order to register a .eu domain name, registrants must meet one of the following criteria:
i. Undertakings having their registered office, central administration or principal place of business within the European Community;
ii. Organizations established within the European Community without prejudice to the application of national law;
iii. Natural persons resident within the European Community.

What is the term of registration?
The term available for .eu domain registrations is 1 year.
 

4).
Are there any reserved and blocked .EU domain names?
The .EU Registry has reserved and blocked certain names. These include:

Reserved names:
i. names which are reserved for registration only by the government of a Member State.

Member States, countries due to join the European Union in the future, and member countries of the Europoean Economis Area (that are not Member States) were allowed to reserve their official name and the name under which they are commonly known in the one or more of the official languages of the EU. These names are published here

ii. Names which are reserved for use by the Community institutions

A list of names published here has been reserved by the European Commission for its own use or for use by the Community institutions and bodies.

iii. Names reserved for the use of the .eu Registry

The following names are reserved for the operational functions of the registry: eurid.eu, registry.eu, nic.eu, dns.eu internic.eu, whois.eu, das.eu, coc.eu, eurethix.eu, eurethics.eu, euthics.eu.

Blocked names:
i. Geographical and/or geopolitical concepts

Member States have been allowed to submit a list of broadly recordnised names with regards to geographical and/or geopolitical concepts which affect their political or territorial organization that may either:
- not be registered, or
- be registered only under a second level domain according to the public policy rules.

ii. Two-letter codes representing countries

Two-letter codes representing countries are blocked and may not be registered as .eu domain names. The list is published here


 

5).
What are the technical requirements for .EU?
i. Minimum of 2 / maximum of 63 characters allowed.
ii. domain names can only contain letters "a' to "z", numbers "0" to "9" and hyphen "-".
iii. domain names cannot begin or end with a hyphen.
iv. domain names cannot have hyphens on the 3rd and 4th position simultaneously.

When a .eu domain will put under quarantined/redemption?
A domain name will be quarantined for 40 days and subsequently released for new registration if:
i. it is not renewed;
ii. It is revoked by the Registry under any of the provisions of the Public Policy Rules

 

7).
What are the rules for renewals?
You may now renew .eu domain name through "Domain Renewal" function in Quick Start Registration tool. Please note that .eu domain can be renewed at any time during the domain's term. WebNIC will extend the domain expiry date at our database while not at Registry due to Registry did not have renewal function. If a renewal request is not received, the .eu domain will be deleted on its expiry date.

 

8).

What happens when a domain name expires?
When a domain name expires, it is immediately suspend for a duration of forty (40) days.

 

9).
What are the rules for Registrar transfers?
Transfer functionality will not be available on the release date. Resellers will be notified when this functionality is released.

Please note that transfers will result in the expiry date of the domain being updated to reflect the transfer completion date plus 1 year.

 
 
10). What are the rules for deletions?
Deletion functionality will not be available on the release date. Resellers will be notified when this functionality is released.

Please note that after reseller initiated a domain deletion request, the domain will suspend for a duration of forty (40) days before release for registration again.

 
 
11). I accidentally registered a .eu domain can I delete it?
Yes, you can delete a .EU domain, however, there will NO refund. Please contact support@webnic.cc for your request

 
12). How to lock/unlock the .eu domain name?
Name protection function is not available for .eu domain, therefore, domain status for .eu domain is always under "Active" and you are not able to lock/unlock the status.
 
   
13).
I have an EU community trademark but my company is based outside of the EU. Can I register a .eu domain name?
No. Only the following categories of companies, organizations and individuals will be able to register a .eu domain:
i. Undertakings having their registered office, central administration or principal place of business within the European Community;
ii. Organizations established within the European Community without prejudice to the application of national law;
iii. Natural persons resident within the European Community.
 
 
14).
Can I change the registrant name?
Please note that changes to registrant information will result in a chargeable transaction when the owner name is changed and/or the owner organization information is changed. This chargeable owner changes will result in the expiry date of the domain being updated to reflect the change completion date plus 1 year. No refund for the fees paid for the initial Domain name registration/renewal.
